Dry Needling

Dry needling is a western form of acupuncture which focuses on improving function and reducing pain by targeting myofascial trigger points with thin acupuncture needles. It can also be used to reduce pain via the pain gate theory by stimulating the body’s natural pain relieving hormones.

Dry needing can be used among any age or ability, however there are a few health exceptions which will be checked with you prior to any treatment being received. Dry needing is used to help relieve pain and movement issues associated with myofascial trigger points. The needles are used to stimulate the muscles, which cause them to contact or ‘twitch’, to help decrease tightness, increase blood flow and reduce local and referred pain. Patients should be aware that dry needling can potentially cause mild muscle soreness for 1-2 days post treatment, similar to post-exercise soreness, or skin bruising.
